We wished we could have stayed longer on Cocos but at $200 a day for permits we had to move on. We had no wind when we left but after 12 hours of motor sailing we finally had enough to shut the engine off. We got within 10 miles of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island in the middle of the night, so we dropped the sails and drifted in the current till daybreak. Got a 4-hour nap and ended up drifting 4 miles further down the coast. I jumped in the water to give the bottom another quick scrub to satisfy the Galapagos bureaucracy and then headed to the anchorage. We were going to take a mooring but after mentioning this to our agent he recommended to pass and go to the anchorage because the gentleman we were in contact with had been known to rent out moorings that weren’t his…..which is kind of an issue when the owner of the mooring returns in the middle of the night and wants you gone. In hindsight it would have been worth the gamble when we realized how rolly the anchorage was.
