We waved goodbye to our new friends and Sydney’s favorite pool and headed south to Zihua. As soon as we got out of the channel the ocean started suppling entertainment. While photographing the wreck of a large ship on the rocks just outside the bay, whales started breaching. We actually got the shots of the whales while we were taking photos of the wreck. This bulk carrier ship washed up on the rocks during hurricane Patricia 10 years ago. I got a shot of it then and now.

And…the dolphins
These folks in Zihua know how to do Christmas: decorations everywhere, holiday concerts every night on the Malecon, and a big parade a few days before Christmas . At 85 degrees and high humidity I’m having a real hard time getting my jingle bell vibe going; not so the locals.
Strolin’ in Zihua
These musical theatre performances were by groups from all over Mexico
Bird rescue
Syd saw an injured seabird floating in the bay and decided she wanted to save it. After the rescue she took it to an animal shelter on the malecon not too far away.
Diving
We did two dives at Manzanillo reef and Caleta de Chon. Nice dives but visibility was so-so. Saw turtles, morays, lots of rays and skates.
Exploring Zihua
Tourist returning with his Sailfish. Hope he’s hungry. Maybe he’ll put it in his carry on.
A little entertainment at the produce market.Great 24/7 taco stand. You get a cup of broth with the bbq tacos. The panadaria stop for the day.
Refrigeration is overrated
Turtle Rescue
We got the opportunity to do the turtle rescue again. Last time we worked on the nest the mother turtle had dug and laid her eggs. This time the eggs were harvested right after she laid them. Then they were brought to a nursery where they could be protected and reburied. It’s fenced to keep the dogs from digging them up and covered with sail shades to keep the frigatebirds at bay. This is all done by an 80-year-old man with the help of his family.
